Traditional British "Sunday" roast from www.theroasthouse.co.uk What a great idea, not really what I would fancy as a late night takeaway but a life saver for my wife and kids midweek after dance class. Sandwiches:
Once again I am found lacking on the name front, but there is a shop on St Johns Rd near the junction with Parsons Rd, Colchester. They do a mega ham salad & hot beef sandwich. They have the most friendly and helpful staff in the town.

Fish and chip shops:
Henley's of Wivenhoe, 9 Vine Parade, Wivenhoe, always appear to be winning some award or another and now open on Ipswich road, Colchester. Very professional setup. It's great to be able to see and choose the fish you want. The portions of chips are massive and at £1.85 a portion a little pricey. A visit on a Friday evening would be a pleasure if they could introduce a little fun and banter behind the counter.

Mr Chippy, St Botolph's, Colchester.When walking around the Queen st area of Colchester on a Saturday afternoon and walked past a teenager with a paper bag smelling delightfully of vinegar? it's Mr Chippy chips loaded with salt and vinegar. I was a little disgruntled on my first visit over the high price of the chips but as they give you masses I forgive them, my daughter, wife and myself just share one portion which is ample.
Scooby Snax in Brightlingsea. The idea is fantastic, how could a "good" chippy fail to impress in a close knit fishing community? and serving breakfast-lunch and dinner.
The service was once again "short" and I say this after visiting three times over the past four weeks. The owner-manager-chef does not come across as being a happy bunny! On my last visit and after quickly asking for my order, my Cod and chips where dispensed into the frier's and he disappeared!! a little concerned after around 5 minutes I attracted the attention of a very helpful server who quickly and cheerfully wrapped my order. The chips alone would score a 3-4 out of 10 but the fish was VERY VERY good.
Miscellaneous:
MacDonalds, Colchester High St. Exactly what you would expect!K F C Colchester High St. Very, very good value bucket deals and FANTASTIC southern fried chicken. The shop is a little bit scruffy and the staff on "the frontline" are always just too busy! I don't know how they can make a chip taste so undercooked, limp and overcooked all at the same time.
